Are you an expecting mama-to-be located in the Baltimore area? If so, this article is for you! If you are a self-proclaimed “yogi”, or if exercise isn’t typically your “thing”, I have something we want to share with you.. 5 amazing Baltimore Prenatal Yoga Classes!

In this article, I will give you an idea of what prenatal yoga is and why women choose to practice it throughout their pregnancies. For all of our Baltimore mamas, we will share our favorite locations for you to begin prenatal yoga now!

What is Prenatal Yoga?

Prenatal yoga is a gentle approach to exercise that is devoted to supporting and honoring the ever-changing body of a pregnant woman. It consists of light and deep stretching, meditation, and learning breathing techniques that can be used throughout labor and delivery.

According to a 2022 article published by Biomed Central Pregnancy and Childbirth, the benefits of prenatal yoga include:

  • Decreased anxiety and depression
  • Decreased perceived stress levels
  • Reduced duration of labor
  • Increased odds of vaginal birth
  • Heightened pain tolerance

Other believed benefits include:

  • Improved relaxation
  • Lessened muscle and joint pain in the lower back and other areas
  • Improved sciatica pain
  • Bonding with baby in utero
  • Social connectedness with other members of prenatal yoga class

Baltimore City Prenatal Yoga

Bamboo Moves Baltimore

Designed to prepare women for their journey through pregnancy, labor, and delivery, this class teaches participants to relax through “mental centering” and focused breathing that benefits mom and baby together. Practiced poses are assumed to be safe, as they honor the unique limitations of pregnancy. These classes encourage a deepened bond between mother and baby.

Indigo Physiotherapy

Guided by highly trained and specialized yoga instructors AND pelvic physical therapists, a professional team will assist you in comfort and readiness as you prepare for labor and delivery.  Combinations of focused breathing, light vinyasa postures, stretching, and asana will promote relaxation while strengthening the hip and core and opening the pelvic bowl.

Baltimore County Prenatal Yoga

The Womb Room

Supporting women in a variety of ways throughout pregnancy and parenthood, The Womb Room is staffed with a certified prenatal yoga instructor. To sign up for updates on yoga classes (and more!), check out the online subscription option here.  

Classes are available Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for a duration of 1 hr. 30 min. Classes cost $20 each.

Harford County Prenatal Yoga

Peace Yoga MD

Peace Yoga is the hot spot for yoga in Harford County. While they do not have a consistent prenatal yoga class available for sign-up, they are always interested in hearing from mothers-to-be in the area who would be willing to form a class. For more information, contact Peace Yoga here.

Carroll County Prenatal Yoga

Deanna Houston Yoga

As a pregnant woman, it can be difficult to find the time to devote to getting ready, leaving the house, participating in a class, and going back home. Thankfully, certified prenatal yoga instructors like Deanna Houston offer completely virtual classes that allow mamas to participate from the comfort of their own homes. Primarily serving women across Maryland, DC, and Virginia, Deanna Houston Yoga has multiple weekly in-person and online classes available. 

Classes are Monday 6-6:45 PM, Wednesdays 7-8:15 PM, and Sundays 6-7 PM. Check here for sign-up and updates
